Our world is full of wonderful and amazing animals! These amazing creatures have some adaptations that may seem strange to us, but are necessary for the animal to survive. These adaptations may be defense mechanisms that help the animal avoid predators or they may help the animal obtain food for itself. Here are ten interesting facts about animals that I think might surprise you.

1. Frogs have eardrums on the outside of their heads. While frogs do not have external ears like humans, they do have an inner ear, a middle ear, and an outer eardrum or tympanum.
2. Sea otters always float on their tails when they eat. These marine mammals swim on their tails and feed on creatures including mussels, ocean imps, bones and draggers. Their veritably thick fur protects them from the cold water while feeding.
3. Polar bears look white, but their skin is black. Unlike other bears, its fur is transparent and reflects visible light. This allows polar bears, which live in arctic tundra, to blend in with the snow-covered environment.
4. Snakes keep their eyes open even while sleeping. Snakes cannot close their eyes because they do not have eyelids. They have eye scales that cover their eyes and they shed when snakes blow their skin.
